Vegan spots – Cafe My House

The other day, Ian and I stopped by Cafe My House for Breakfast – it turned out to be a lovely little place!

The restaurant is located in Hintonburg, and their menu is all vegan. You can either go for brunch (which is what we did) from 10:30 to 2:30 on weekends, or you can stop by for dinner from 5:30pm to 10:30.

The ambiance is very cozy, which was nice for a hungover Saturday morning (sorry mom).

Here’s what the menu’s like:

As you may have guessed, I had a lot of trouble deciding what I wanted, since this was like a vegan paradise.

But I ended up deciding on the onion patty burger with the kale caesar salad, with a ‘deviled egg’ on the side.

(Have you ever seen such a convincing non-deviled egg? I was amazed).

Anyway, the food was lovely! They’re also quite accommodating to gluten free diets, which is nice.

One more about the deviled egg though; the sauce was amazing, but whatever the used for the ‘egg’ was kind of strange.. like gelatin almost? A vegan alternative, obviously. But anyway – this was a case where’d I’d say it was more about looking like a deviled egg than actually tasting like one.

They have Equator coffee as well (a local Ottawa roastery) which has great coffee! Unfortunately the coffee is kind of pricey at 3$ a cup and they don’t do refills – but the flavour is lovely.

Summary:

Price: $$

Quality: ++++

  1. HAHA! We’ll just pretend it didn’t happen 🙂

    I like the way they make the meal look very appetizing. I might have chosen the avocado toast, something I (unbelievably) haven’t had yet. One of these days…

    The name of the place is cool, too. When I read the title of the post, I thought you were going to write about cooking/eating at your apartment!

  2. The presentation of the food is nice. I try to do that at home, make every meal look delicious. I think it’s important as it’s all part of the luxury of dining!

    I rarely suffer hangovers these days (phewf!), but I do drink wine every day, I believe it’s good for your health. 🙂 But I remember my hangover cure was always to have a large fruity cocktail with my breakfast and I felt instantly better! 🙂 Did you imbibe? 😉 (I won’t tell Martha!)
